Measure on the rim — may differ from the label
Pressure is worked out separately for the front and rear wheel: the system weight (rider + bike + load) is split across the axles, and each wheel uses its own load and real tire width. The result is shown as a ±5% range — the ideal pressure sits in a small window where comfort, grip and rolling speed balance.
Road uses a linear model based on load and tire width. Gravel, city, fat and touring use the base pressure-width model (city tires run a little firmer). MTB uses a grid of values for wide tires with smooth interpolation between the nodes, separately for front and rear. In aggressive style for road and gravel a separate model kicks in that accounts for tire deformation in the contact patch.
On top of the base figure, modifiers apply: an inner tube adds pressure relative to tubeless, dirt and forest lower it a little for grip, rain and winter soften it, and riding style shifts it softer or firmer. For hookless rims we show a warning when the result exceeds the safe limit.
Wrong pressure costs you watts on the road, traction on dirt, and pinch flats on square hits. The right pressure makes the bike feel planted, faster and more comfortable.
The calculator is calibrated against real-world pressure data and stays within ±5 PSI of typical recommendations for road, gravel and MTB setups. Use it as a starting point and fine-tune by feel.
Your body weight sits mostly over the rear wheel — around 55/45 rear-to-front on most bikes — so the rear needs more pressure to carry the load. A slightly softer front improves grip and steering feel in corners. The calculator splits the load automatically by bike type.
Clincher (inner tubes) is the default — flip the toggle if you run tubeless (about 8 PSI lower). For hookless rims we warn you if the recommended pressure would exceed the 72.5 PSI limit.
